Dr. Shier received his BA in Geology from Rice University
in 1961 and his Ph. D. in Geology from Florida State University
in 1965. Dr. Shier was employed by Shell Oil Company 1965 to
1974, Scientific Software Corporation 1974 to 1981 and was a
Consultant from 1981 to 1983. From 1983 through 1989, Dr. Shier
provided petrophysical services under
a joint venture with Energy Data Services Inc.. From 1989 to
2001, Dr. Shier was President of Energy Data Services Inc. In
June, 2001, he acquired the assets of Energy Data Services Inc.
when that company was dissolved. He has continued the business
as a consultancy.
Dr. Shier has been working with digital well log data bases
for the past 30 years and has normalized logs for more than 15,000
wells. He has performed log analysis for oil fields in W. Texas,
Oklahoma, Illinois, the Gulf Coast, the Rockies and other areas.
